1 LITTLE WITCH JPGww0202

Synopsis

When Katrina, The Little Witch of Wichita, arrives at the annual Halloween Happening forgetting her "assigned ingredient," the conniving Eastwitch and Westwitch, “the keepers of the cauldron,” trick her into going into the deep dark woods. Promises of a new computerized, digital, high speed Internet access broom tempt her into these woods in order to find, not only her assigned ingredient for Witch Hazel's brew, but also those of Eastwitch and Westwitch. Witch Hazel's bratty son, Butch, trails Katrina into the woods, lets her find the missing ingredients for the brew, and steals them, claiming the digital broom for himself. But, after she encounters Armando (an endangered Mayorcan Mambo Mouse), the Peek-a-Boo Tree, and the Very Old Man, Katrina learns the true meaning of respect for endangered species, the environment, and one's self.

CAST

KATRINA, THE LITTLE WITCH OF WICHITA:  Petite, perky and naive.   Feisty and fun-loving.  She comes on the scene with style and flair wearing hiking boots, a warm-up suit and a back pack, and instead of a broom, she rides a scooter.

WITCH HAZEL, QUEEN OF THE WITCHES: Brassy and sassy, she demands respect...and gets it.  When she gives an order, it must  be carried out to her exact specifications or else.  High heels and spandex are her mode of attire.

BUTCH, WITCH HAZEL'S SON:  Witch Hazel's pride and joy. Spoiled rotten, this little son of a witch shows his temper when events don't go exactly his way.  He wears knickers, white shirt, black vest, and a bolo tie.

EASTWITCH & WESTWITCH: The Laurel & Hardy of witchdom.   Witch Hazel's assistants.  They always seem to mess things up.  The more order they try to make, the more chaotic everything becomes.  More comical and zany than scary, their outfits are not traditionally witch-like.  (Can be male/female, male/male, or female/female.)

ARMANDO MOUSE:  Conceited and boastful, a "Mr. Know it All" mouse with a continental flavor.  A definite MWA; Mouse With Attitude.  Compact in stature.  (Doubles as Warlock  in opening and closing scenes.)

PEEK A BOO TREE:  In the realms of a Bonsai willow tree.  Feminine. She stands her ground. Traces of Haiku embellish her speech. (Doubles as Witch in opening and closing scenes.)

VERY OLD MAN:  Wizened and wise, he knows the ways of the  forest and ways of life. (Doubles as a Warlock in opening and closing scenes.)

*CHORUS:  Three or more optional singers/dancers to act as  witches, warlocks, trees, rocks, and animals throughout  the play.

TIME: The morning, afternoon, and evening of Halloween.

PLACE: Witch Hazel's home, Oakwitch Gardens.  In the backyard. Deep within the dark woods behind her house.
